Marcee Lee Winthrop is an up-and -coming published poet/author with her first book
“POVERTY REVOLUTION: Part 1-Skimming the Surface’.
She has plans for an entire series.
The catalyst for this book was to do everything humanly possible to get out of poverty by the end of 2009 and she is giving it her all. Marcee has been in poverty for at least two decades and her 14 year old daughter has never known a time without poverty in her life. It’s been a stressful, constant life below the poverty level. Finally, Marcee got sick of being poor.
One day, she went on Ancestry.com and found her whole family tree all the way back to 1045A.D. on her mother's side. She saw famous ancestors and also, the earliest American and Canadian settlers. She figured that if she had any itsy bit of the spirit and determination that her ancestors had, then she would find a way out of poverty somehow. Just after the ball dropped in Times Square 2009, she turned to her daughter and stated that they would get out of poverty by the end of the year. It was Marcee's New Year's Resolution and promise to her daughter Maralisa (also called Tammy). Then the journey began---she found a hidden talent that had laid dormant. She began to write poetry---one after the other, then went out to open mics to test them out to favorable response. Very suddenly, her husband abandoned them without any means of support. Marcee applied for some jobs quickly but no-one called back. They were about to lose their trailer, the electric, etc. It was sink or swim, but Marcee faced it like a trooper and decided to speed up writing poems to put in a book and added commentary about each poem. Two months later, she had the layout done, the printing done, but no money to publish the book. Two weeks later, her Pastor asked her if the book was ready for publishing and he offered to pay for her first 50 books.
She started her own publishing company and promotes her books to bookstores, on the internet and always carries a few to sell personally. Marcee has started to give presentations on the campus of The University of Florida and is looking forward to other events or presentations off of campus too. Marcee has started a nonprofit on FaceBook that she hopes will have an office next year. It’s called "Marcee Lee Winthrop's POVERTY REVOLUTION INITIATIVE"(MLWPRI).The purpose is to help others who want to get out and stay out of poverty. Marcee is sticking to her promise ---and the journey continues-------Will she make it out of poverty?
